“THE RED BARN” (Horror – Part VIII)

Previously on The Red Barn – News reporters and first responders in the town of Avalon experienced horrific events that made the previous horror the town experienced come to light.  Several more people were seriously injured and killed during the raining of horror coming down from the skies above the town.  All these happened after numerous bodies were discovered underground in an open field, which unknown to them released the evil to gain control of the souls.

As the town clean up continued, with several federal and state agencies on scene, a few ghost hunter organizations also arrived on scene to investigate reports of strange phenomenon’s happening.  It would soon become apparent that the town of Avalon is not the only location to experience such activity.  One ghost hunter organization from Atlanta, Georgia called Spirit Hunters were invited to the town to conduct investigations at night when most of the clean was not happening.  Once they arrived in town they were escorted by a county deputy sheriff to the command trailer.  The founder and leader of the Spirit Hunters, Jeremy Maxwell along with his two other members, Jane Hunt and Michael Pool, met with the incident commander.  In the meeting with the incident commander it was told to them that majority of the unexplained incidents were happening at night.  Some of the things that were happening during the daylight were minimal by things being moved and strange smells.

While the incident commanders continue to explain to them what goes on the team gives him their undivided attention as he gets into the main reason of calling them in.  During his explanation he expressed his personal concern and safety of all his subordinates.  One of the things that got the teams attention was when the incident commander explained to them of spirits roaming the town in real-life like physique.  It is not strange to see spirits roaming around the earth amongst the living, but the detailed description of how they are being seen by others is very unique.  The spirits roaming around the town and other locations around the country are being reported as to look like real people to where you can reach out and touch them.  One worker in the town of Avalon expressed her spirit sighting in one location where the city hall used to be.  She described the incident as the spirit appeared behind her from nowhere and scared her to near heart-attack when she saw his facial features.  The incident commander read her report of the incident to the team, which again struck their undivided attention.

In reading the woman’s sighting accounts she described the spirit as having one eye open with the other eye missing and a black hole in place of the other eye.  The nose was crooked as if it has been severely broken and his mouth was sown shut.  The woman continued to describe the scene as her standing there within several inches of this spirit starring at him as he starred at her.  Then suddenly she began to feel hot and started sweating from every pore in her body while in the presence of this spirit.  She attempted to move away from the spirit, but it grabbed her by both arms and moved his face closer to hers.  As he was getting closer she could smell raw sewage and other foul odors pouring off of him.  As his grip got tighter and tighter on her arms she attempted to scream, but found out her voice was taken away.  The woman immediately began to cry and tears just flowed out like a river entering the ocean.  Then suddenly as quickly as the incident started, it ended with him disappearing, but his clothes were still suspended in the air for a few seconds before they too fell to the floor.

After the letter was read, Jeremy looked at Michael and Jane to gage their reaction to the letter, but noticed they were just as shocked as he was.  The incident commander showed them several other letters he received from other workers and police officers.  One disturbing fact in one of the letters from a police officer was that his service weapon was taken out of his holster and pointed at him.  When the officer turned around and saw his service weapon suspended in mid-air pointed at him he freaked out and attempted to move out of the line of fire.  As he moved around the weapon followed his every move.  Suddenly the weapon fired one round just missing the officer’s head and then dropped to the ground.  At this point Jeremy and his team knew that they would have their hands full while investigating this town.  Once the meeting ended, which lasted for about two hours, the team was escorted to a large tent that was set-up specifically for them when they arrived.  It was almost dusk as they began to get themselves comfortable.  The police officer that had that horrific experience with his service weapon discharging on its own entered their tent.  He introduced himself and gave them more details about other incidents occurring within the town and where the most activity was happening.

After a brief conversation between the police officer and the Spirit Hunters team, a call for dinner was made to all the workers.  The police officer escorted the team to the three trailers that were serving dinner and encountered other victims of the spirit phenomenons happening around town.  The team was easily identified by their light gray polo shirts with “Spirit Hunters” written in faded black lettering.  The team almost couldn’t eat their dinners as they kept getting approached by others that experienced strange like events throughout the town.  It got to a point to where the police officer escorting them had to tell people to talk to them after they finish eating and set-up for the evening.  During their supper the police officer spoke to Jeremy to find out how long they plan on staying in town.

JEREMY MAXWELL:  We plan on being in town for at least three days, but we can stay a little longer if need be.

POLICE OFFICER:  Good.  Most of us didn’t begin to experience any problems like this until carpenter nails began to fall from the sky several weeks ago.

JANE HUNT:  Did you just say carpenter nails falling from the sky?

POLICE OFFICER:  Yeah.  You don’t know about that?  That was all over the news from every part of the country.  It was so bad that the president declared this town a disaster zone.

JANE HUNT:  We were out of the country doing another investigation so when we returned very little news coverage was seen about this town.

POLICE OFFICER:  That’s typical.  Unless we have murders or crime running around the area we won’t get much attention.  Even though one of the news crews were victims of the falling carpenter nails.  Blood flowed through the streets and bodies being dug up from underground prior to all that happening.

JEREMY MAXWELL:  How many people died from the falling of horror?

POLICE OFFICER:  We are still not sure of the count, but a few are missing and at least ten people were seriously hurt, and at least ten more bodies were found all throughout the town.  I wasn’t here when all this happened, but was called in to provide the town security after ghosts were seen walking among us.

MICHEAL POOL:  Were you a skeptic?

POLICE OFFICER:  I was at one point before my career, but after I became a police officer I did experience small phenomenons on certain occasions.  Nothing to this magnitude though.

JEREMY MAXWELL:  We don’t normally do this, but we would like for you to accompany us tonight and there after while we investigate.  Would you be okay with that?

POLICE OFFICER:  (After he sat silently and thought about it he gave his answer) of course!!

A few hours later the police officer met up with the Spirit Hunters at their tent to get prepared for the investigation.  Jeremy began to show the police officer their equipment and gave a short explanation to each one’s capabilities and use.  Just before they left the tent to their first location Jeremy gave the police officer a set of night vision goggles and a tape recorder to record voices of the natural and supernatural.  The police officer alerted the incident commander and his sheriff that they were ready to begin their investigation and would start at the city hall sight.  Only parts of the city hall building remained standing, but majority of it was reduced to rubble.  Their investigation started very quickly as they entered the city hall sight.  The police officer entered one of the doors that led to the part of the building still standing first.  As soon as he broke the threshold of the door his flashlight went dim and then knocked out of his hand.  He jumped back and used another flashlight from Jeremy and frantically searched around for anyone who could be in there, but no one was seen.

JEREMY MAXWELL:  What happened?

POLICE OFFICER:  I don’t know who or what, but my flashlight went dim and then something knocked it out of my hand.  The strange part of it was that no footsteps were heard leaving the doorway.

MICHAEL POOL:  (Who was holding one of the cameras expressed that he got the incident on film) I got the whole thing on film so we can review later.

They continued inside and the police officer picked up his flashlight and gave Jeremy back his.  Once everyone was inside Jeremy pulled out his voice recorder and began asking questions.  After each question he paused for a few seconds waiting for a response.  Jeremy asked another question, who is here with us right now, and waited for a response, which nearly happened immediately.  Right after he asked the question a spirit responded with a deep demonic voice that sent a slight rumble under their feet, “The ruler of mankind and destruction!”, was heard by their human ears as well as the voice recorder.  That response shocked everyone as they muttered amongst to themselves.  A few seconds the police officer asked the question pertaining to his service weapon being fired at him a few days ago.  Several seconds passed with no response, but his question was soon answered by another demonic response, “You didn’t head to the warning, but now you must die!”  That response stopped them in their tracks and struck absolute fear in the police officer’s heart.  Jeremy and his team were getting excited about the activity they were receiving.

All of them hung out in the city hall building for several minutes after the last response, but no more activity was being recorded.  About an hour later they left the city hall rubble and started towards the area where a woman had an encounter with a spirit grabbing her.  Just before they arrived at their next location the police officer spotted a possible spirit lurking in the woods south of town.  Immediately he pointed out the spirit walking and lurking in the woods, which had a glow to its outline and visible from several feet away.  As Michael swung his camera around to get it on film, the spirit suddenly disappeared.  They all began to ask each other and themselves what happened to the wooded spirit.  As they looked around and slowly made their way to the woods where they last saw it, the spirit was suddenly seen by Jane to her left hanging in the tree by its neck.  The sight scared and shocked Jane, which led to a quick scream and jumping of her away from the tree.  When they all turned around Michael attempted to once again get the spirit on film, but his camera then suddenly shut off.  Michael began to cuss and trying to figure out what happened to the camera.  As he looks down to deal with the problem and being rushed by Jeremy to get it back up and running, the spirit disappears once again.

It was at that time Michael got the camera up and running.  He pointed the camera in the direction of the last sighting of the wooded spirit and searched for it amongst the trees.  When Michael turned completely around the wooded spirit flew at him with an ear piercing scream and black face with no facial features.  The spirit flew head on into the camera and knocked Michael on his back, which he fell on a heavy log injuring his back.  As they attend to Michael and the camera, the police officer was frozen with the sight he was seeing in the woods.  Jane and Jeremy were calling the officer’s name to come help, but with no response Jeremy turned around to get the officer’s attention.  When he turned around he saw the same sight the officer was seeing and was frozen in his actions as well.  Then Jane turned around to get both of their attentions, but she was soon frozen in time of what she was seeing as well.  Michael lay on the ground barely able to move was seeing the same sightings the other three were frozen by.  Almost every tree in that part of the woods contained a naked spirit with a Chinese red glow appearing from them hanging by their necks with blacked out faces.

After several minutes of starring at this enormous sighting, Jeremy and the rest of the team, started to hear loud thumps in the woods.  Jane whispered to Jeremy asking him what’s that sound, but he couldn’t answer her.  Her question was soon answered when they started seeing bodies from the trees falling to the ground without their heads.  Jeremy watched at least five bodies drop to the ground with their heads still attached to the ropes hanging in the trees.  That is when he hurried to get the rest of the team out of the woods and had the police officer carry Michael.  Jeremy grabbed the damaged camera and hauled ass out of the woods of death screaming to everyone to not enter the woods.  The incident commander heard the commotion and came out of the trailer to see what was going on.  He saw the police officer carrying Michael out of the woods and immediately alerted the first responders to come and check out Michael.  When the incident commander approached Jeremy and Jane to ask what happened, he was told about the spirits they saw in the woods.  Jeremy went into detail explaining to the incident commander that dead spirits hanging from the trees began to fall to the ground with their heads still attached to the rope hanging from the trees.  After hearing this he sent two officers into the woods to at least check out the story and see if anything could be seen.

A few minutes later the two officers made it to the woods and saw pieces of the broken camera on the ground.  Then suddenly they started to hear growling noises coming from the darkness of the woods in front of them.  When they exposed the darkness with their flashlights they went out and they couldn’t bring them back on.  It was then the incident commander heard the two officers screaming to the top of their lungs.  When others started to run towards that direction they were seen running back yelling to others to seek safety.  Several midnight black and Chinese red wolves were seen charging out of the woods at any person they saw.  Anyone with a gun, including police officers, began to fire at the charging wolves, but that quickly became fruitless.  The last thing the incident commander ever saw was Chinese red wolf jumping at him with his face being mauled.

    • Thanks for stopping by! First you need to find an environment that can allow you to have your ideas and thoughts flow freely. It took me some time to gain that kind of discipline to be able to let my thoughts freely flow without much interruption. What works for me is picturing the story in my mind as a movie being played on the big screen. As soon as I have that picture and motion picture in my head, I just write according to what I imagine. Just try different things and see what you come up with.

  6. Your style is unique compared to other folks I have read stuff
from. I appreciate you for posting when you have
