“The Red Barn” (Thriller – Part VI)

PART VI

Previously on The Red Barn – The Town of Avalon council members experienced a small part of the wrath that is to come very soon.  The residents of the town experienced and witnessed the satanic power that has infiltrated their lifestyle, but will soon surcome to things of a more horrific nature.

Minutes after Blair left the town meeting, the police, along with the chief of police, responded to the scene after numerous 911 calls.  The first person to see all the council members with bloody carvings into their chest was the police chief, but obviously taken back of what he saw.  When he asked the new elected mayor of what the carvings mean, the mayor, along with other council members, didn’t know what was actually carved into their chest.  The only thing they all knew is the pain that was associated with it and the blood stained clothes that they have on.  When the mayor didn’t respond quick enough, the police chief took a look at everyone around the room and asked the same question, “What does that mean?”  The response he received from one of the council members was of anger and frustration mixed with fear and confusion.  One of the female members of the council raised her voice and answered the chief, “What the fuck does it matter?!  Look at us!  You need to catch the man that did this to us?”  She started shedding tears and her voice started crackling before she could even finish her last statement.

The police chief just looked at her and started to rethink how he approached this situation.  He turned his head to look at the mayor he kept rubbing his chest and blood just staining his hands.  The mayor looked at the police chief and answered his question saying, “I don’t know what this means.  I can’t see what was carved into my chest.  The only thing I know is that it hurts like hell.”  By this time the ambulance crew came rushing in and very quickly gathered up all the council members to take them outside to be treated.  As the police chief watched the council members get escorted out of the building, one of the officers on scene approaches him with a curiosity of what has happened.  The police chief looked at the young officer and replied, “The Devil, son.  The Devil.”  The police chief stared at the young officer in the eyes for a few seconds after he made his statement and walked outside the building.  Once the police chief walked outside, he instructed another officer to take pictures of the council members.  The carvings were not clearly seen until the paramedics cleaned up all the blood and the wound.  One of the paramedics became very alarmed when he was able to pick out what the picture meant on the mayor’s chest.  The young paramedic looked at the mayor and yelled over to the police chief to come over and take a look at what has been discovered.

The police chief jogged over to the rear of the ambulance and asked the paramedic what was wrong.  The young, disturbed paramedic pointed to the mayor’s chest without saying a word.  When the chief turned his head to look at the mayor’s chest once more, he was absolutely shocked at what the carving resembled.  The police chief looked at the mayor, who was stunned and full of fear of what they figured out it meant.  After the initial shock of spotting the true meaning of the carving, the police chief squatted down to just below eye level of the mayor and muttered his words.  The mayor asked him to repeat what he just said and the police chief repeated his words a little more loudly, “The Four Horseman.”  Once that was discovered at what it finally meant, the police chief rushed over to the others and found the same carvings on all of the council members.  The female member, who vocally expressed herself to the chief after he got on scene, saw her carving clearly for the first time and just filled up with fear.

Almost immediately after her eyes met with the police chief’s, her skin nearly turned pale and her heart started to flutter inside her chest.  The paramedic that was working on her yelled out, “CARDIAC ARREST!”, and other fellow paramedics rushed to her aid.  She was laid gently on the ground as one of them brought around an AED to jump start her heart.  The EMS attempted several times to revive her, but within minutes after her symptoms showed, she passed away.  In the mean time, Blair arrived back home and when he entered his house, the lights were off.  The only light that was seen inside the house was the numerous candles that lined the room on every available shelf, table, and window seal.  Every curtain set in the house was closed to limit the light source from the outside world.  When Blair entered the family room, he saw his wife and two kids dressed in all black sitting on the floor surrounding a circle that was created on the floor from chicken blood.  They looked at him as he stood there staring at them before entering the family room to join them in a spot that was considered the north end of the circle, across from his wife.  As soon as he sat down on the floor with his feet crossed underneath him, his wife pulled out a piece of white cloth, which was about six inches by six inches.  On the cloth was the town name they were living in.  The wife also pulled out a butcher knife and proceeded to slice the wrist of her two children and her husbands.  She then followed up by slicing her own wrist and each one of them held their bloody wounds over this white piece of cloth that is now on the floor in the center of them.

A few minutes of silence fills the room before Blair breaks the moment with a statement of, “The people must pay with their lives, which in turn their souls become ours.”  The wife then replied, “For they have committed the ultimate sin for destroying our masters entrance to the mortal world, which now they must endure the same fate that is to be stowed upon them.”  After those two chilling statements were made, the skies above the town started to transform followed by rolling thunder and severe winds.  It was at this point that the mysterious family started to chant at a low tone and with each passing minutes they got louder and louder.  The skies above the town started to change color from a normal black evening sky to a Chinese red hue that shocked many.  Every person that was outside at this time of the transformation, looked up and was witnessing the beginning of the end for them, but at this point that is further from their minds.  Within a matter of a few minutes the entire sky above the town was a Chinese red hue and rolling thunder immediately followed.  The thunder was so loud to everyone that some people ended up losing their hearing when their ear drums erupted.  Soon after the rolling thunder began, the strong severe winds blew through the town.  The winds were so strong that some of the people literally flew off of their feet into the air landing in places not suitable for a human body to land in.

Garbage cans, mailboxes, and other objects that were not deep into the ground turned into projectiles.  As these projectiles like objects flew through the windy air, some people were hit with garbage cans while others got impaled by tree branches.  Suddenly, lightning struck down from the sky and set a few houses ablaze with families inside.  The entire town became a lightning field of mines as each house, every vehicle, and person struck exploded into a bright fireball.  House after house exploded into flames and sending debris flying through air, which just added to the projectile objects already filling the air.  Residents ran for their lives as their beloved town crumbles and goes up into intense flames.  The devastation of the town could be heard over ten miles away, along with severe power outages that spread for miles with the Town of Avalon being ground zero.  Everyone at city hall was witnessing one side of the town being destroyed by precision strikes of the lightning coming down from the Chinese red sky.  Those watching this spectacular scene on one side of town finally reached the other side and they too began to scramble for their lives.  The lightning strikes were just a precise, if not worse, then what the regular citizens experienced.  As the town burns to the ground, trees and other natural fixtures were not spared within the intense heat.  Any first responders responding to the town to assist were blocked by falling trees and shadowy figures filling the streets.

The very last house to go up in flames was the Washington family’s house, which caught fire and just melted to ashes.  The town burning caught national headlines that night and into the next day for several days.  Black smoke and soot filled the air and caught the jet stream that streaked above and carried the contaminated air into nearby towns and cities.  The smell of burnt flesh, wood, rubber and other materials were mixed together in a scent that caused everyone who smelled it to vomit and either suffocate or go into cardiac arrest.  Some of the elderly complained about their skin having a burning sensation, which was accompanied by severe rashes and puss filled blisters.  Even the victims that inhaled the poison and died of suffocation, it was later determined that their lungs actually melted and turned into a black-red liquid.  The contamination had spread for miles and filtered out over the Atlantic Ocean, which beach-goers witnessed a heavy black cloud overhead.  This terror went all throughout the night and into the following morning, which the sun was partially blocked from all the smoke still in the air.

As emergency personnel from all over arrived on scene by cutting down all the fallen trees and debris blocking the roads into the town, the sight was unbelievable.  Every single structure was either burnt to the ground into ashes or still hours later engulfed into flames.  Hundreds and hundreds of police and fire personnel on scene just walked through the ruins of the town, which was also littered with partially burnt bodies in the street.  Bodies littered the street so bad that police and fire department vehicles couldn’t gain access into town.  During the initial assessment of the devastation, on K-9 officer from a neighboring county was walking through one part of the town when he noticed a little black girl standing before him.  His German Sheppard partner spotted the girl and didn’t alert the officer with a normal bark or whine.  The dog sat down and just starred at the girl as she starred back at the dog and the officer.  The K-9 officer kneeled down and held out his hand trying to coax the little girl towards him, but she won’t move.  Then suddenly the little girl turns around and takes off disappearing behind a partially burned down church.  The K-9 officer takes off after her with his dog leading way, but apparently the dog is confused and not sure which way she went.

As they search the grounds at the rear of the church, more bodies are discovered and the smell is just overpowering the K-9 and the officer.  Since the smell was too much to overcome and ignore, he attempted to pull his K-9 turn around, but the leash broke.  His K-9 partner took off running and the K-9 officer followed running right behind him.  After a few blocks of chasing behind his K-9 partner, they came across the Washington family’s house.  The dog jumped on top of the rubble and started sniffing around.  The K-9 officer was looking at the destruction of the house as he was trying to gain control of his K-9 partner.  When he did grab what was left of the leash still around the dog’s neck, he notices his K-9 partner is attempting to chew something.  He bends down to see what his dog was eating.  When he pulled the object out of the dogs’ mouth, he noticed it was a small toy red barn, which resembled a board game piece.  He investigated it and played with it in his hand before putting it in his pocket and leaving the scene.
